Position: Data Science Associate

IVAN Research Institute is a transdisciplinary, non-profit research institute with 5 research centers dedicated to building research infrastructure, research implementation, research skill training, and grants administration.

 

Job Summary                

The Data Science Associate will play a critical role in providing technical support for data management, analysis, and visualization, as well as maintaining the institute’s IT infrastructure. The successful candidate will work closely with researchers and other teams to support research projects and initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in IT, data management, or a related field.
  • Experience in data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Strong knowledge of database management systems, data analysis and visualization tools, and programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL.

Key Skills:

  • Data Management: Expertise in database design, development, and management.
  • Data Analysis: Proficiency in data analysis and statistical software (e.g., R, STATA, SPSS, SAS).
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, with experience in supporting research projects and initiatives.

 

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain databases to store and manage research data
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and security
  • Collaborate with researchers to analyze and interpret data
  • Develop and maintain data visualizations and reports
  • Maintain and troubleshoot the institute’s computer networks, hardware, and software
  • Provide technical support to staff and researchers

Job Summary                  

The Research Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing, coordinating, and advancing research activities at IVAN Research Institute. The successful candidate will lead a team of Site Research Coordinators (SRCs) and Community Research Engagement Officers (CREOs), manage grants, and ensure that all research activities align with the institute’s objectives and standards.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in public health, social sciences, nursing or related fields.
  • Master’s degree in public health, social sciences, nursing or related areas with a minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience implementing a large project with a proven track record of managing and leading research teams.

Key Skills:

  • Proposal Development:  Knowledge in research design, qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Project Management: Experience in data collection, strong organizational skill and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex research findings to diverse audiences.
  • Ethics and Compliance: Familiarity with ethical standards and regulatory guidelines governing research, with a commitment to upholding the highest standards of research integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Lead implementation of research protocol and overseeing data collection and data cleaning
  • Ensure research activities align with organizational goals and objectives
  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards and regulatory requirements
  • Supervise and mentor research staff, including coordinators, analysts, and assistants
  • Allocate resources and manage budgets for research projects
  • Monitor project timelines and deliverables, ensuring adherence to deadlines and quality

The Site Research Coordinator (SRC) plays a vital role in supporting research activities at IVAN Research Institute. The successful candidate will work closely with the Research Manager, Community Research Engagement Officers (CREOs), and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth execution of research projects. This position requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., public health, epidemiology, biology, or social sciences).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in research coordination or a related field.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Key Skills:

  • Knowledge of research ethics, regulations, and guidelines (e.g., GCP, ICH)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Time management and prioritization skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic data capture (EDC) systems. 

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing research studies
  • Assist in data collection, data entry, data cleaning, and data quality control
  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards, regulatory requirements, and institutional policies
  • Liaise with research participants, research teams, and other stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of research activities
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
