Post-treatment cancer survivorship care remains underdeveloped across Africa despite a growing number of survivors. This scoping review searched four databases for journal articles and grey literature published between 2011 and August 2024 on cancer survivorship and care delivery in Africa, screening 9,417 records and including 181 studies from 19 African countries. Research output grew from 6 studies in 2011 to 32 in 2023, comprising 97 quantitative, 42 qualitative, 25 programme descriptions, and 18 mixed-methods studies; childhood survivorship was addressed in 40 studies, and psychosocial effects of cancer and its treatment were discussed in 104 studies. The authors conclude that while interest in survivorship care is increasing across Africa, the evidence base emphasizes psychosocial outcomes with limited attention to care coordination, highlighting a need for context-appropriate integrated survivorship care models.
