Hypertension prevalence in Nigeria is high and rising, with burden and risk factors varying by geographic zone, yet population-level data on awareness remain limited. This cross-sectional survey examined hypertension prevalence, correlates, and awareness among 6,538 male partners of pregnant women in North-Central Nigeria between 2016 and 2018, analyzing demographic, risk factor, and blood pressure data through logistic regression. Hypertension prevalence was 23.3% and prehypertension 46.7%, with higher odds linked to older age, overweight and obesity, urban residence, and recent alcohol use; only 7.1% of men with hypertension were aware of their condition, with awareness higher among older men and lower in urban areas. The authors conclude that hypertension is a significant, largely unrecognized burden in this population, underscoring the need for interventions targeting modifiable risk factors and awareness.
