Family caregivers of children hospitalized with cancer in Nigeria face substantial unmet needs and caregiving burden, with few structured interventions available to support them. This quasi-experimental study, the RESCUE Study, examined the impact of structured in-hospital psychoeducation on caregivers, predominantly mothers, who received two training sessions covering patient management, spiritual care, self-care, and support. The intervention was associated with significant improvements in unmet needs, preparedness for caregiving in palliative care, overall quality of life, and reduced caregiver burden. The authors conclude that well-designed psychoeducational interventions delivered in hospital settings can meaningfully improve outcomes for informal caregivers of children with cancer in African contexts, though further work is needed to optimize the intervention's components for broader implementation.
